hi,

i want to merge area 200 into area 100 without down time....

router ospf 1
log-adjacency-changes
area 100 stub no-summary
area 200 stub no-summary
network 192.168.6.0 0.0.0.127 area 100  -----> 25 interfaces connected
network 192.168.5.0 0.0.0.127 area 200   -----> 40 interfaces connected
network 192.168.10.0 0.0.0.3 area 0

how can i merge??...

only if each router internal to area 200 has two links you can have a chance to achieve this.

in any case you need to migrate one link per time including all devices connected to the link.

devices single homed in area 200 will need to be configured for area 100 they will be lost for some time and recovered after upstream device is migrated.

This means some impact.

So without down time only if each router internal to area 200 has at least two links

Edit:

being both area 100 and area 200 totally stub areas what is the advantage of joining them?

the OSPF LS DB will increase in size in the new merged area.

Hi,

Just throw an idea, might not be the best solution.

You can create a EIGRP process on ABR and all routers within area 200; put 192.168.5.0 0.0.0.127 into EIGRP, also advertise a summary 0.0.0.0 into EIGRP on the ABR. After you form eigrp neighbors with all connected routers, verify all routers in area 200 are using EIGRP as the default path. Then you can remove area 200 on ABR, and add them into area 100. After you form ospf neighbors with all connected routers, verify all routers in area 100 have correct OSPF database, then you can remove the EIGRP process.
