Re: OSPF pocess ID

Hello Pradeep,

there is no form of conversation between multiple OSPF processes running on the same router: each one will have its own database, actually a database for every area it is a member of.

Because OSPFv2 does not export in the Hello packets the process-id you cannot add to both process OSPF 1 and OSPF 2 the same network area command: this will cause problems including that the related prefix will be not advertised at all by any of the two OSPF processes.

Also be aware that OSPF adjacencies can be formed if Area-id and area type match.

When it comes to route installation in the IP routing table the two processes will be competitors and will try to have their own routes installed.

From the point of view of the IP routing table mantainer any OSPF detail about the route is lost and the first route proposed is installed.

For example the capability to prefer O E1 routes over O E2 routes is lost.

This is very critical with OSPF default routes.

In this case the OSPF AD for internal, inter-area and external routes can be modified within OSPF process in order to get the desired and predictable behaviour.

Hope to help
