Hi,

My router A is connected to 2 upstream routers,as below,

1-Router A---fa0/0---R1

2-Router A---Fa0/1---R2

All 3 routers running OSPF , I would like Router A to prefer 1st link over 2nd link.

does puting the lower cost on 1st link interface will do the trick ?

Regards,

OSPF prefers lowest cost path to the destination. So if you have 2 routers & if your preference is to reach R1 than R2, then manually assign cost on interface connecting to R1 some what lower than R2.

Hi Mohammed

You could either put a lower cost on fa0/0 or a higher cost on fa0/1 or use the bandwidth statement but the bandwidth statement will affect other things such as QOS.

Because it's a fastethernet port, it is advisable not to assign any bandwidth & let it run defaults. You may play with cost to achieve desired results.

OSPF chooses the outgoing interface cost and hence you would be required to tune the cost value on both the routers.
