OTV vs Dot1q Tunnelling or Q-in-Q

What benefits does OTV provide for DC interconnectivity over and above dot1q tunneling?

perhaps less HW ?

more effiecient link utilization ..?

You can take a look at this link, not exactly talking about QinQ:

Two things that come to my mind is efficient use of bandwidth, with OTV, you will have the ability to blocking STP and unknown unicast automatically (default with OTV). HSRP localization configuration to avoid trombone routing.

To add to Jerry's excellent post

OTV simplify DCI when multiple DCs need to be interconnected using L2

In addition with OTV you can use any underlaying L2 or L3 transport to run OTV on top of with or without multicast support

Also OTV can be integrated with LISP to design a fully mobile modern interconnected DCs
