policy routing based on different dscp or precedence value

I would like to set different next hop based on the incoming ip packets' precedence or dscp value. The incoming ip packets have already been marked by the previous hop, let's call it 1st router. I tried to use an extended acl to match the precedence or dscp value but without success. It looks like to precedence or dscp value once left the 1st router, the vaules were reset to 0 when the ip packets arriving the next hop (2nd router).

My question is : does precedence or dscp value is only "local" to the first router and never retain its value when it is passing to the 2nd router.

Please help. Thanks.

Re: policy routing based on different dscp or precedence value

That answer to your question is: no. The DSCP values should not be reset by any other routers by default, unless they have explicitly been configured to do so.

I'd be interested to see the policy you used..
