preferred transport ssh

Hi, I have added SSH version 2 and the lines:

line vty 0 4

transport input telnet ssh

Do I need to add an output and a "preferred transport ssh"?

I do not see a "need" to add either of those lines. They are particularly appropriate to situations where you would access the router and then from the router initiate connections to other devices in the network. Very few of us do that. If that is true of your situation then you might "want" to add those lines, but I do not see a "need" for them.

Re: preferred transport ssh

I just have:

line vty 0 4

transport input telnet ssh

I will leave it as that.

Thanks Rick

That should work fine. It will accept both telnet and ssh connections to the router. (and it would support both telnet and ssh if you access the router and then initiate connection to some other device).

Some people want to use only ssh and not allow telnet (as a security enhancement). If you want to allow only ssh and not telnet then you would change from:

transport input telnet ssh

to

transport input ssh
