I want to uplink the new 2950 switch with the exisiting 2950 which is connected by fibre. The old switch is connected to the 6513 core by UTP and it is vtp client.Trunk Link is configured between the two 2950 switches. But i am not getting any vlans.
the existing switch is added to the ACS server but the new one is not.what will be the problem with vtp.
When u put a new switch, probably it might be in the server mode by default. So first chk with your show run or show vtp status whether it is in the client mode or not! Then as Ankur said, chk the vtp domain name and version on both switches by issuing show vtp status and ensure it that there is no mistmatch.....
Just go thro. this link for further troubleshooting tips on vtp,
Yes it will work, But there is possiblity that this new switch will ignore the update from others if it has a higher revision number. Since he used the old switch as a client mode, i don't think that there is necessary to keep it in server mode.
This is actually a pretty cool feature, i didn't even know it existed until I was looking for a solution to advertise a subnet (prefix in BGP talk), only if a certain condition existed. This is exactly what conditional advertisements does
