I recently purchased a 2821, (2) VWIC2-1MFT-T1/E1, and the Enterprise Services feature pack. I have been unsucessful with configuring the T1 cards. while under config, I have no interface serial. Do I need to change an option on the board or turn on a feature somewhere? Thanks in advance.

If you do a show version do you see the card installed?

If not power down the router and try to reseat the card.

Here is what I see:

Cisco 2821 (revision 53.51) with 247808K/14336K bytes of memory.

Processor board ID FCZ09497352

16 FastEthernet interfaces

3 Gigabit Ethernet interfaces

2 Channelized T1/PRI ports

1 Virtual Private Network (VPN) Module

2 802.11 Radios

DRAM configuration is 64 bits wide with parity enabled.

239K bytes of non-volatile configuration memory.

62720K bytes of ATA CompactFlash (Read/Write)

Configuration register is 0x2102

Hi Kevin,

Have you issued the "card type" command? the VWIC2 cards are different from the first gen cards in that you have to give that command for them to be recognised.

card type {e1 | t1} slot subslot

Second-Generation 1- and 2-Port T1/E1 Multiflex Trunk Voice/WAN Interface Cards

Yes this was done. Both cards are set up as T1. When I am in conf t, there is no int serial option.

Have you configured the Controllers? You have to specify the card type, and then you have to configure what timeslots you are using under the controller t1 config. I don't think you will see the serial interface in the config until you configure the controller timeslots.

The 2nd gen vwic2's and nm-hdv2s can be configured as T1 or e1 ports. You have to configure the

card-type t1|e1 x y command to configure the ports as t1 or e1.

x is slot number , y can be onboard or wic controllers.

Once you configure the ports as t1, you can change them to an e1, but will require reboot.
