QoS class maps

Can anyone point me to a good site on how to create class-maps and policy maps to be able to deal with protocol traffic like http, nntp, smtp, etc.? I can find a lot on voip, but rarely anything on these other protocols.

Thanks,

John

It depends where you want the traffic to match. Often, the service policy is applied in the output direction in the router egress interface.

Hi John,

Please refer to the documentation:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/ios/qos/command/reference/qos_m1.html#wp1046559

Thanks Edison. Do you have any examples of how this is applied? Would the service policy be applied inbound or outbound on the inside interface, or should it just be applied outbound on the outside interface?

Thanks!

Hello Edison,

in other threads were the use of NBAR with match protocol was discussed we had found that actually a line like

match protocol http

matches only as:

access-list 101 permit tcp any any eq 80

and not on return traffic that can be described as:

access-list 102 permit tcp any eq 80 any

So this is to be taken in account when using NBAR: the direction of traffic matters.

Hope to help
