Query regarding Distribute-list..

If i configured distribute-list on serial0 of R1, then what will happen.

Router(config)#access-list 20 deny any

Router(config)#distribute-list 20 s0/0 out

1.) Would R1 and R2 be able to exchange hello packets.

2.) Would R1 be able to receive route updates from R2.

3.) If Pc1 want to communicate with pc2,then will it be possible.like ping,telnet....

4.) if we want to copy some data from pc2 to pc1,is it possible... doubt is data will come from R2 to R1, will data will pass through passive interface,

figure is attached with the mail......

If you configure that distribute list on R1 then it will prevent R1 from advertising anything out the serial interface. To answer your specific questions:

1) the distribute list does not affect hello packets so R1 and R1 will exchange hello packets.

2) The distribute list as you have configured it, affects outbound advertisement not inbound so R1 will continue to learn updates from R2. (But R2 will not learn any updates from R1)

3) PC1 and PC2 will not be able to communicate because R2 does not have any route to the subnet of the remote PC.

4) You will not be able to copy any data from PC2 to PC1 because R2 does not have any route to the subnet of PC1.
