Rate Limit Bandwidth on 18xx / 28xx

Hi,

We have provisioned 20 Mbps Internet Bandwidth (Symmetric 1:1) from our ISP. But for testing purpose we want our bandwidth to be restricted to 10 Mbps (Upstream & Downstream) for testing purpose. Is their any command line to rate limit bandwidth at CPE Router Interface its - Ethernet Interface.

Hi Rajeev

You can try configuring CAR(Rate Limit)under your interface on both the sides(input/output) which can limit your traffic to 10Mbps on both the sides..

Re: Rate Limit Bandwidth on 18xx / 28xx

Hi Prem,

CAR only works for high end Routers 72xx,76xx etc. And our's is 18xx / 28xx.

Re: Rate Limit Bandwidth on 18xx / 28xx

Hi Rajeev

CAR is supported in low end routers too ..

I have seen CAR (Rate Limit) been implemented and working fine even in Cisco 1751 Series router..

Hope you can check out the IOS code which can support the same in your ISR boxes..

Check if your router supports class maps and policy maps.If it does, then you can go ahead and configure a access-list first matching any source to any destinations.

After that configure a class map and match the access-list in that.

Then create a policy map where match the same class and then define the bandwidth as per the requirement. After all these, configure the same in the interface as service policy output.

Do the same activity in both the routers.
