Rate-limit limitations

Hi,

I need to put a rate-limit on my router WAN interface. I need to give a certain cap limit for respected clients.

My question is, if that cap is not being fully utilized, will the rest of  bandwidth be available to  default traffic.

and again, if capped used started utilizing more, will be they get their respected bandwidth.

Please assist.

If you cap (drop overrate) specific clients (or traffic), with a rate-limiter (or policer) it's always capped, unless you have some clever way for such traffic to bypass the rate-limiter (or policer) (e.g. such as perhaps CBWFQ classes using timed based ACLs as part of their class-map criteria.)

Whatever bandwidth, not currently being used by rate-limited (or policed) traffic would normally be available for other non-rate-limited traffic.

Hello

It looks like a MQC policy with police is a better choice for you rather than traditional rate limit. So that your application gets required bandwidth and at the same time, the excess traffic will be dropped

Harish.

Hi Harish,

Police is already configured. But when default traffic(non-policed) exceeded , policed traffic get hamper.

That's why , we are trying a committed bandwith for certain users.

Please advise.
