Redundancy Link - Switches

Hi Experts,

There is a connection as attached..Now I am able to test from 2950 to 3750 redundancy link failure, but am wondering if let's say point A has failed, how to make the traffic routes to the other C4506 Core Switch 1??

The traffic is currently flowing to C4506 Core Switch 2.

How can I make that happens so that the redundancy is okay from 3750 to 4506?

Yes it would.

The 3750 being stacked is seen as a single switch. When the link to one 4506 will be is down, the HSRP MAc address will learnt on the port that is connected to the other 4506.

You can try this out to be sure

BTW, is there any particular reason of using the 3750 as purely L2? It would have been a better design to configure the SVI's in the 3750 and have redunant conenctions to the 4506 running L3 connections

How have you configured the link between the 4506 and the 3750, L3 or L2

If it is a L2 link, you can configure HSRP on the 4506 and have a static route to the HSRP IP address from the 3750 switches. this will take care of the failure of anyone of the 4506 switches

If the link is a L3 link, run any routing protocol sucgh as EIGRP/OSPF and tune the interface costs/delay to make one connection to the 4506 as primary and the other as secondary. In this case you need to also have a l3 link between the 3750's for successful failure

is a layer 2 link. THere is no routing at 3750. Purely Layer 2. Only have VLANs info.

User connected to Access Switch will push traffic to default-gateway of Virtual interface at 4506 via 3750(distribution switches), eg: 10.33.5.254 , 10.33.7.254 and yes, there is HSRP configured at both 4506 Switches..

MY concern is when the fibre link at Core Switch 2 down, (layer 2 link) , will the traffic knows how to route to core switch 1 through port-etherchannel that formed between 2950 n 3750?

Hi Narayan,

First..it has been always this way that 3750 will be a dist switch to cater to access switches..

Secondly.. 4506 is the Core Switches where all the virtual interfaces are there and to be HSRP ready for redundancy purposes..okie, thanks for your reply..Have rated ur post..:)
