Replacement for J4300

I've a client who's asked me to replace his Juniper J4300 router which is getting flakey and is no longer under maintenance.

I'm a Cisco guy and not very familiar with the J-series routers. Which model in the 2800 series is closest in routing performance to the J4300?

Client has 4x T1 cards and a backup DSL card in the J4300.

I have heard that the J4300 runs at about 70Kpps, and anything besides the 2801 in the 2800 series is at least 120Kpps... note that all numbers are basic IP CEF switching with no extra features... add features like ACLs / Queueing / Shaping / Netflow / MLPPP, and your pps performance may drop as much as 50%... YMMV

A 2811 will support 4xT1 and a DSL module...

Good luck, and drop me a line if you want to dump that J4300 on someone

In my honest opinion, you could easily replace the J4300 with a 2811. According to the following Miercom report, the 2811 has far superior performance numbers (130Mbps) than the J4300 (16Mbps).

Look for the 2811 test report (09/2004) in the follwing page:

Here's the performance test report for the J Series routers from the Juniper site just in case you need to compare with the Miercom 2811 test report.
