RIP v2 timers

I have been searching the web finding the answer to this question.

"How would I be able let IOS display if RIP is currently running an invalid timer, holddown timer or flush timer ?"

I have tried different debug commands like 'debug ip rip', 'debug ip rip database', 'debug ip rip trigger', and 'debug ip routing' to no effect.

My purpose for this is so that I can educate myself and others as well (in case they wanted to know what RIP timers are for). :D

Thank you very much.

Enable 'debug ip routing' and you should see the route put into invalid state approx. 180 seconds from the last update and around 240 seconds or so the route should be flushed out of the routing table.

Hi,

the relevant informations can be found with "show ip protocols":

Routing Protocol is "rip"

Outgoing update filter list for all interfaces is not set

Incoming update filter list for all interfaces is not set

Sending updates every 30 seconds, next due in 9 seconds

Invalid after 180 seconds, hold down 180, flushed after 240

Redistributing: rip

Default version control: send version 2, receive version 2

Interface Send Recv Triggered RIP Key-chain

Serial1/0 2 2

Loopback0 2 2

Automatic network summarization is not in effect

Maximum path: 4

Routing for Networks:

10.0.0.0

Routing Information Sources:

Gateway Distance Last Update

10.1.1.1 120 00:00:06

Distance: (default is 120)

As seen above the current values of all mentioned timers is listed.

Hope this helps! Please use the rating system.

how would we be able to know if the invalid timer already started ? hold down timer ? flush timer ?
