route-map versus filter-list command

Hi guys,

what's basically the difference between the two commands when applying it on neighbor command. Im seeing some config using the filter-list and some route-map command.

Example

neighbor 200.69.232.70 route-map OUT out

neighbor 200.69.232.70 filter-list 1 out

Thanks.

Re: route-map versus filter-list command

Jeff

There are many things that could be said but I will suggest that the biggest difference is that while a filter-list can permit and deny route advertisement, a route map can permit and deny route advertisement and can also set values for various parameters in what is being advertised.

Re: route-map versus filter-list command

Another thing to note is that filter-list uses AS path access-list as their match criteria while Route-map can uses a number of match criterias like AS path, prefix list, etc.

In summary, route-maps are more flexible and have more options for the configuration.
