Copy the IOS to the boot flash of your router.

Change the boot variable string.

Reload the router.

Don't forgot to upgrade the bootstrap too.

Leo,

Thanks for the feedback and I do appreciate it.

I did a sh ver of one of the device to be upgraded (see below) now when you say to upgrade the bootstrap as well are youi referring to  Rommom ?

Our release management is recommending to upgrade to version  15.1(2)S1-3.2.2S having say can i just upgrade the IOS or do i still need to upgrade the bootstrap as mentioned?

Thanks

Jack

That's correct.

You can upgrade the IOS and the Bootstrap with only ONE reload.  Here's how:

1.  Copy the IOS first into the appliance;

2.  [OPTIONAL]  Change the boot variable string;

3.  Upgrade the Bootstrap using the command:   upgrade rom file all

You will be prompted with a "y/n" and when you hit "y" the Bootstrap upgrade will commence and the appliance will reboot to the new IOS you've specified.

Since you're upgrading to 3.4, why not go for 3.4.6S instead of 3.4.4?

Lulian,

Our release management team is recommending to upgrade to version 15.1(2)S1-3.2.2S.

Do i need to upgrade my bootstrap? if so what are the steps or command line for that?

does the bootstrap upgrade requires a reboot of the router ?

does this means the router will have to be reloaded twice ? one for the bootstrap upgrade and one for the IOS upgrade.

Thanks,

Giacomo

ROFL!  IOS-XE version 3.2(2)S was release back in 27 April 2011!  Imagine the amount of bugs, exploits and vulnerabilities that have been discovered then.

I've posted a method (above) that will allow you to upgrade the IOS and Bootstrap with only ONE reboot.
