router hardware

I have a client with an Cisco2811. He now wants it to be a POE Router. Can he update the power supply and network module to make this happen or does he need to purchase a cisco2811-ac-ip?

Re: router hardware

cisco2811-ac-ip is the part number for the power supply. No need to replace the router, purchase the POE card and power supply, you should be set

Re: router hardware

Thank you. Do you know if I need a power cable from the power supply to the NM slot?

Re: router hardware

The new power supply will replace the current one. The power supply is not installed in the NM slot.

Re: router hardware

Yes, thank you, but how does the power get to the network module slot? is there a cable or is it built into the board?

Re: router hardware

The new power supply will provide the power. The PoE NM slot will know where to look for the power.

Re: router hardware

You have been very helpful, and just to clarify - for my boss - I don't need any cable from the power supply to the slot for the network module.

I don't have a router to look inside - but our client keeps speaking of a wire to the network module slot from the power supply.

Thank you again... sorry to push this.

Re: router hardware

Hi,

The wire you're talking about comes with the ILP supply, it's not orderable separately. You need to connect it from the power supply to the ILP motherboard connector. Full details here:

Re: router hardware

How can I tell which power supply is installed without physical access to the router? Show Ver and Show diag don't show me.

Thanks!

Re: router hardware

Try "show environment" it should show something like this if is an AC-IP supply:

Router#sh environment

Main Power Supply is AC with -48V

-48V supply status: OK

-48V relay status: NON-ISOLATED

...

It won't show the -48V if it is not.
