Router or not router

My computer is connect to the internet via an ISP using modem (ADSL). The IP address of my PC is dynamically assigned by the ISP. Now I want to add three more PCs to the network (LAN) so that all of them can access the internet.

1)Can I do it without using a router or HomePNA? If not, what will be the other choices?

2)If, for the above case, a static IP is a must, do I need the static IP for each of the PCs on the (LAN) network?

Thanks

Re: Router or not router

usually, your ADSL modem can be a DHCP Server, so you don't need the static IP for each of the PCs.

And one the PC Dial to connect to the internet, so share this connection.

Re: Router or not router

Hi!

What is the OS loaded in ur PC.You may do the following if its XP/2000 or greater:

(1)Install a network card

(2)Enable Internet Connection Sharing(ICS) on the ADSL connection.

(3)The IP will be 192.168.0.1 default

(4)You may give other PCs starting from 192.168.0.2 and gateway 192.168.0.1

(5)Start accessing www.cisco.com............

.......Or, use a cisco 1721 router with WIC-ADSL

Bye
