Router performance with encryption

Hi,

I was wondering what is the router performance decrease when using encryption?

For instance the CISCO2911 has 180.73Mbps half duplex switching performance, what would be more or less the decrease in performance if I use encrypcion?

Thanks in advance.

The value of "180.73" Mbps is expressed in HALF duplex and without any encryption.

The simplest rule-of-thumb is to cut the figure in half to get the value in EITHER full duplex or with encryption.  180.73 x 0.5 = 90.365.

If you want to get the value in full duplex AND with encryption then you take the value of "180.73" and factor that by four.  180.73 * 0.25 =  45.1825

So a 2911 can run up to 45.1825 Mbps in full duplex and will encryption.

NOTE:  Cisco staff might correct me on this as the VPN engine might be able to push more bandwidth than 50% but I (and some others) use the 50% rule-of-thumb widely.

That attached documents some encryption performance for later routers.
