Router preference within RIP

One of my client is still running RIP, here is the requirement: there are two different paths available for same destination, both have same hop count. They wants to ensure that only first path should forward traffic and second to be used as backup only.

How can i do it in rip!!!!!because in OSPF we have cost etc but in case of hopcount do i have something to play with???

Re: Router preference within RIP

You can use offset list with RIP

Eg.

router rip

offset-list 1 in 3 Serial0

access-list 1 permit

The above configuration would modify the metrics (increase hop count by 3) for the networks defined in access-list 1 when received on serial0 inbound

If you want to modify this for all incoming and outgoing routes, use an empty access-list
