RP selection in PIM-SPARCE-DENCE-MODE

hi,

When configuring PIM.Sp.DEN mode mor multicasting if more that two routers are configured as RP for the same group which becomes the final RP for that group?

Please share any experience.

Any link on cisco.com.

Thanks in advance.

Subodh,

I suppose you are referring to auto-rp. The RP with the highest IP address will be elected the RP.

Re: RP selection in PIM-SPARCE-DENCE-MODE

Hi Subodh,

If you use Auto-RP, mapping agent will choose the RP with the highest IP address

If you use PIM-BSR, each multicast router will run an Hash algorithm to choose the RP. At the end each router choose the same RP for a group or group range.

If you use Anycast RP, each multicast router chooses its closest RP from an IGP metric perspective. RP's exchange their sources via MSDP.
