Hi,
There is a requirement to test Cisco CAT 4948's 10G interface. We need to saturate it to atleast 8G. Suggestions are most welcome. Thanks.

Akhtar

Expensive test equipment like Ixia and others. Remember, you do not only want to send traffic, but also to measure what is received and when, and that is the tricky part.
Then you will probably will find that everything must be tested, Cisco did it already, and you would be wasting time and money in doing it again.

Hello Aktar,
you need dedicated hardware instruments for doing this kind of test and you need to follow the standard methodology.
methodology:
http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc2285.html
more general for internetworking devices
http://www.rfc-archive.org/getrfc.php?rfc=2544
For instruments I've used in the past Agilent routertester, Ixia and AX-4000
They have built in packet loss tests that can do the job.
http://www.spirent.com/Solutions-Directory/AX_4000.aspx
http://advanced.comms.agilent.com/n2x/
These products are much more then traffig generators they can emulate routers, routing protocols, perform packet analysis.
But as Paolo has noted they are not cheap.
Hope to help
Giuseppe
