Serial Connection Issue from a 3825 to our MPLS Provider

I have opened a ticket with my MPLS provider and as always... wait and then they come back with "nothing on our end".

We are using 3825's with serial interfaces to connect 3 offices together across their mpls. There are full T1's at all three locations just for voice, and 10 meg ethernet for data. These networks are not converged anywhere except they both pass through the same router, but across different interfaces.

Trying to get some feedback on this sh serial output from the 3825

Serial0/0/0:0 is up, line protocol is up
  Hardware is GT96K Serial

I reloaded the router and then did the same sh command:

Serial0/0/0:0 is up, line protocol is up

Issue is still ongoing- poor voice quality and such. Any help would be most appreciated.

Thanks-

Re: Serial Connection Issue from a 3825 to our MPLS Provider

Actually, It looks like things got worse. Check

your DSU/CSU config with a show controllers on the serial interface.

you should be taking timing from the network.

dispatch from the provider is a good idea at this point.

Re: Serial Connection Issue from a 3825 to our MPLS Provider

Looking at the first show interface command, you have layer 1 issues.

3 carrier transitions, input errors and crc's.

Take another look in a couple of hours (since you reloaded the router)

and see if those counters have incremented. If they have, then you get

to troubleshoot the link supporting that site.

It could be:

     local loop.

     DSU/CSU settings

     cable

And its true, the provider won't see this stuff.

Re: Serial Connection Issue from a 3825 to our MPLS Provider

I have changed out the connecting cable and replaced the HWIC-T1 and I am still getting poor quality. There is still a large amount of input errors, and crc errors.

ORD3825#sh int serial 0/0/0:0
Serial0/0/0:0 is up, line protocol is up
  Hardware is GT96K Serial
  Internet address is 209.***.***.***/30
  MTU 1500 bytes, BW 1536 Kbit/sec, DLY 20000 usec,
     reliability 255/255, txload 1/255, rxload 1/255

  Open: IPCP, loopback not set
  Keepalive set (10 sec)
Last input 00:09:36, output 00:00:05, output hang never
Last clearing of "show interface" counters 13:12:10
Input queue: 0/75/0/0 (size/max/drops/flushes); Total output drops: 0
  Queueing strategy: Class-based queueing
  Output queue: 0/1000/64/0 (size/max total/threshold/drops)
     Conversations  0/4/256 (active/max active/max total)
     Reserved Conversations 1/1 (allocated/max allocated)
     Available Bandwidth 1 kilobits/sec
  5 minute input rate 0 bits/sec, 0 packets/sec
  5 minute output rate 0 bits/sec, 0 packets/sec
263239 packets input, 16788664 bytes, 0 no buffer
     Received 0 broadcasts, 0 runts, 0 giants, 0 throttles
     14348456 input errors, 7698812 CRC, 0 frame, 0 overrun, 0 ignored, 0 abort
     282842 packets output, 18412470 bytes, 0 underruns
0 output errors, 0 collisions, 96 interface resets
     102 unknown protocol drops
     102 unknown protocol drops
0 output buffer failures, 0 output buffers swapped out
     5 carrier transitions
  Timeslot(s) Used:1-24, SCC: 0, Transmitter delay is 0 flags

What direction should I head in? The provider still doesnt see anything on their end. Should I ask for them to have a tech dispatched to test the smart-jack?

Not sure how to decode this one. Nothing has changed since initial configuration. I will call the provider again.
