Serial to ethernet converter

Dear All,

I am having 30 branch locations and each branch location is connected to central location with 2 Mbps leased line. At the Hub location is it possible for me to pur 30 Serial to Ethernet converter and connect the links to a L3 switch? I want to avoid using a higher end router with 30 2 Mbps interfaces.....

Re: Serial to ethernet converter

Hi,

Hard to say, maybe you ask the vendor selling you the converters - ask for POC by trying one or two.

There are other options also, which changing the line to MPLS or MetroE (point-to-multipoint). Check the interface needed, compare the one-time and recuring cost with existing one (including the 30 converter).

Re: Serial to ethernet converter

Hi, a "serial to ethernet converter" is exactly a router, so there is no way you can avoid using one. Check with your SP if they would provide an ethernet interface, that can result more practical for you.

Hope this helps, please rate post if it does!
