service finger vs. ip finger

The command lookup tool verbage for default behavior on these commands is very elusive/confusing.

This is the way I understand it:

12.0 - 12.1(5)

service finger

default = ENABLED

ip finger

12.2 - onward

integrated-introduced in 12.2

default behavior is DISABLED.

If you could point me in to the

factual clear cut information from

Cisco that would be awesome.

I am not 100% sure but I honestly

think there could be a disparity between

whats in the Mstr. Cmd. Refs.

vs. Command Lookup Tool

Could be wrong though.

Per the documentation:

service finger

The service finger command has been replaced by the ip finger command. However, the service finger and no service finger commands continue to function to maintain backward compatibility with older versions of Cisco IOS software. Support for this command may be removed in a future release. See the description of the ip finger command for more information.

And the 'IP Finger' documentation indicates the following:

11.3 --- This command was introduced.

12.1(5), 12.1(5)T --- This command was changed from being enabled by default to being disabled by default.
