Shaping on 7604 SPA interface - show policy-map question.

When I apply a service policy that has shaping to a router interface, like on a 7206, the 'show policy-map int xxx' has a "Shaping Active" field that will show you if shaping is actually occurring as in this output:

BVU-RT7206A-MDF#sh policy-map int g0/3.82

GigabitEthernet0/3.82

Service-policy output: WAN-100MB-speed_with_10MB_voice_Imaging

Class-map: class-default (match-any)

2009821825 packets, 505756075940 bytes

30 second offered rate 6251000 bps, drop rate 0 bps

Match: any

- 0 2009821859 3244902755 0 0 no <--- will show 'no' or 'yes'

** This output even shows how many packets have been delayed due to shaping.

-------------------

But when a shaping service policy is applied to a SPA routed interface, there is no such field to show whether shaping is active or not, or whether any packets have been queued due to shaping, as in this output:

ROC-7604-B#sh policy-map int g2/1/0.122

GigabitEthernet2/1/0.122

Service-policy output: WAN-ERG_with_24voice

How is one to know if shaping is active on a SPA interface?

Hi,

You will know shaping is on if the queue depth is higher than 0 but it's real-time value so I agree you will notice it only when you are sending traffic around the CIR for a significant period of time.

Re: Shaping on 7604 SPA interface - show policy-map question.

May I request a counter be installed that will let us know how many packets have been shaped? Something that will let us know that this is working? Sometimes we end of going on faith that our configuration is working when there is no tangible sign that it is.

What would it take to get something like that going?

Hi,

For feature request, you need to work with your Cisco account team who could help you to build a business case.
