Slow WAN link - both sides on same IP segment

clark.d

Level 1

Inherited a goofy config. Site 1 and Site 2 are connected via a Pt to Pt T1. Users complined of slowness. Looking over config both sides are 172.16.x.x/16. One is .1 and one .2...but still same IP segment. Bridging is not enabled, but would braodcasts an other packets flow accross this?? Attached is interface config.

Thanks

Hello Dave,

yes they are a flat subnet so there can be impact of broadcast traffic.

IP subnetting is needed here.

IP proxy-arp can help in mitigating the effects on end systems enabled on lan segments.

Also the subnet is simply too big and the level of broadcast is high.

Really a bad design unless there were some requirements on servers.

Hope to help

Giuseppe
