Snmp user doesn't get saved in the config

I used the following website to enable snmpv3 on my cisco router:

http://www.unix.com.ua/orelly/networking_2ndEd/snmp/appf_02.htm

I used to following line to create the snmp user

“snmp-server user username readonly v3 auth md5 mysecretpass priv des56 passphrase”

After this snmpv3 works well. But when I do a show run I don't see this config line of the snmp user anywhere. More troubling, the snmp user is gone after a reload of the router and I have to re-enter it.

I'm using a Cisco 1605R router with c1600-k8osy-mz.123-22.bin

Regards,

michiel

Re: Snmp user doesn't get saved in the config

Michiel-

The username does not show up in the config, to view it try the following command.

router#show snmp users

User name: MMessier

Engine ID: 000000090200000142BC4241

storage-type: nonvolatile active

Authentication Protocol: MD5

Privacy Protocol: DES

Group-name: MyGroup

You should not lose the SNMP user after a reload. Try the above command after a reload and see if it still shows.

Re: Snmp user doesn't get saved in the config

The snmp is gone after the reload. See bellow the steps I have taking.

1.

==================

router#show run | include snmp

snmp-server engineID local 4F04E2BC5D

snmp-server group readonly v3 auth read readview

snmp-server view readview internet included

snmp-server location ******

snmp-server contact *******

==================

2.

==================

router#show snmp user

User name: snmp

Engine ID: 4F04E2BC5D

storage-type: nonvolatile active

router#

==================

3.

==================

router#copy run start

Destination filename [startup-config]?

Building configuration...

[OK]

router#

==================

4.

==================

router#reload

Proceed with reload? [confirm]

==================

5.

==================

router#show snmp user

router#

That's no good. Is this a lab router? Can you upgrade the IOS to 12.3(22a)? There are some major bug fixes in the newer code.

Sorry, included the wrong version in my first post. I already running 12.3-25 (c1600-k8osy-mz.123-25.bin)

Re: Snmp user doesn't get saved in the config

Does SNMPv3 work once configured?

Yes, snmpV3 works without any problems. As long as I don't do a reload.

Re: Snmp user doesn't get saved in the config

Could this be because of old platform (1605R) that I'm using (Maybe because of a little Nvram)? Or should it be IOS related?

What about SNMP v2 ? Does it goes after reload?

Yes, Snmpv2 is no problem (even with reload). But I want the security of snmpv3.
