Sr2016 seems DOA

I purchased a SR2016 gigabit switch.  it doesn't work.  I connected three devices to it - two computers and a router.  I tried pinging all of them and am unable to do so.  I noticed that both indicator lights (link/act) are SOLID constantly.  I tried with just two computers connected (w/out the router) and w/ just the router and one device - the result is the same.

Where to go from here?  Am i doing something wrong?  I can't take it back to the retailer because i already trashed the packaging.

Is there a way to go about returning it uner warranty to cisco?
