Static Default to Network Aggregate Near NAP

Hi All,

I was wondering if it is possible to configure a static default route pointing towards an aggregate...I was thinking about this as a solution on a CE POP router.

ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 x.x.0.0

x.x.0.0 = network aggregate close to the NAP

Thanks!

David

Static Default to Network Aggregate Near NAP

Hi David

Yes thats possible to configure a static route with next hop pointing to a Subnet ID ( Major Classful Subnet IDs only ) rather than Next-Hop IP. But that Subnet should be present in the RT..

I was wondering what will be exact requirement where we have in the RT an Aggregate Route via which we would want to route anything on adefault-basis.

Hope this helps to answer your query.

Hi Varma,

The requirement would be that the aggregate destination address would have to be in the routing table, and the next-hop associated with that aggregate would have to recurse to an exit interface

Static Default to Network Aggregate Near NAP

Hi David

This will work if we will put a default route towards an Aggregate Major Network ID which itself recurses to an Exit Interface on the router.

Hope this helps to answer your question.
