Hi all,

I have the following router 7500:

sh ver

Cisco Internetwork Operating System Software

BOOTFLASH: GS Software (RSP-BOOT-M), Version 11.1(8)CA1, EARLY DEPLOYMENT RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)

Nisa7500 uptime is 2 weeks, 23 hours, 37 minutes

System restarted by processor memory parity error at PC 0x60262A38, address 0x0 at 19:27:24 UTC Mon May 22 2006

System image file is "slot0:rsp-isv-mz.120-9"

cisco RSP2 (R4700) processor with 131072K/2072K bytes of memory.

R4700 processor, Implementation 33, Revision 1.0

Last reset from power-on

G.703/E1 software, Version 1.0.

G.703/JT2 software, Version 1.0.

X.25 software, Version 3.0.0.

Bridging software.

Chassis Interface.

1 VIP2 R5K controller (2 FastEthernet)(1 POS).

2 FastEthernet/IEEE 802.3 interface(s)

1 Packet over SONET network interface(s)

123K bytes of non-volatile configuration memory.

16384K bytes of Flash PCMCIA card at slot 0 (Sector size 128K).

8192K bytes of Flash internal SIMM (Sector size 256K).

No slave installed in slot 3.

Configuration register is 0x2102

and I have CEF enabled in all interfaces.

I want to transmit through the POS (STM1) interface more than 100Mbps but when I try to transmit more than 80Mbps I can see that the delays over this link are much greater.

I issued:

sh int pos 1/0/0

POS1/0/0 is up, line protocol is up

Hardware is cyBus Packet over Sonet

MTU 4470 bytes, BW 155000 Kbit, DLY 100 usec, rely 255/255, load 69/255

Encapsulation PPP, crc 32, loopback not set, keepalive set (10 sec)

Scramble enabled

LCP Open

Open: IPCP, CDPCP

Last input 00:00:00, output 00:00:00, output hang never

Last clearing of "show interface" counters 1d04h

Queueing strategy: fifo

Output queue 0/40, 38 drops; input queue 1/1500, 0 drops

5 minute input rate 30336000 bits/sec, 7527 packets/sec

5 minute output rate 41960000 bits/sec, 6986 packets/sec

802366763 packets input, 4006294907 bytes, 5091 no buffer

Received 0 broadcasts, 0 runts, 0 giants, 0 throttles

0 parity

0 input errors, 0 CRC, 0 frame, 0 overrun, 2090834 ignored, 0 abort

683603799 packets output, 4173775391 bytes, 0 underruns

0 output errors, 0 applique, 0 interface resets

0 output buffer failures, 0 output buffers swapped out

0 carrier transitions

and I can see that there are a lot of "ignored".

Is this possible that VIP or PA is not able to handle incoming packets?

What could be the solution?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Regards.

Rubén.

Not applicable

I suspect that VIP is not able to handle the incoming packets.

"Ignored" errors are caused by the CPU not being able to handle the amount of traffic needing to be switched. In your case, the VIP CPU isn't able to handle all of the traffic coming into this PA.

What kind of VIP are you running? You may want to look into upgrading to a newer revision.
