SUP32 issue w/ IOS image s3223-ipservicesk9_wan-mz.122-18.SXF4.bin

Hi, All.

I need some help regarding SUP32 with two images below.

s3223-ipservicesk9_wan-mz.122-18.SXF4.bin

s3223-ipbasek9-mz.122-18.SXF7.bin

On both of them, we applied boot variable syntax such as follows:

boot system flash sup-bootdisk:s3223-ipservicesk9_wan-mz.122-18.SXF4.bin

boot system flash sup-bootdisk:s3223-ipbasek9-mz.122-18.SXF7.bin

For all our switches with SUP32 using s3223-ipservicesk9_wan-mz.122-18.SXF4.bin image will show that it has been booted from bootdisk: when I do sh ver on the switch and showing such as the following:

System image file is "bootdisk:s3223-ipservicesk9_wan-mz.122-18.SXF4.bin" ,

while SUP32 using s3223-ipbasek9-mz.122-18.SXF7.bin image shows as it's been booted from sup-bootdisk:

and showing such as

System image file is "sup-bootdisk:s3223-ipbasek9-mz.122-18.SXF7.bin".

Both SUP32 have config-register value as 0x2102 and image is saved in sup-bootdisk:

My question is when applying 122-18.SXF4.bin file with the boot variable we have used above, why would it show that it has booted from bootdisk: instead of showing such as sup-bootdisk:. SUP32 w/ 122-18.SXF7.bin file shows that it has been booted from sup-bootdisk:. Is it because of ios image version difference between SXF4 and SXF7? I thought even with SXF4 should still show that it has been booted from sup-bootdisk: when we do sh ver on the device. However, it's not showing as it's been booted from sup-bootdisk:. Any of you aware of this issue or did I make any false statements? Please get back to me as early as possible so that we may know for sure what to do with those issues.

Hello Jay,

first of all is each of the two C650x with SUP32 running the IOS image you wanted to have on it ?

You can check if any difference in file system naming exists by using the following commands

dir /all

on Router1

dir bootdisk:s3223-ipservicesk9_wan-mz.122-18.SXF4.bin

shows you the image file ?

on Router2

dir sup-bootdisk:s3223-ipbasek9-mz.122-18.SXF7.bin

shows you the image file ?

Notice that the two images belong to two different feature set and this could be the root cause of the difference you see.

The Supervisor Engine 32 has:

sup-bootdisk:-256 MB internal CompactFlash Flash memory (from ROMMON, it is bootdisk:)

Hi,

You should be able to use the command "show file system" to verify all the disk spaces in you SUP.

In general, images should store in sup-bootdisk:. It is possible that the IOS file systems were renamed to bootdisk: at some point.
