Re: synchronize NTP of a computer XP with a Router 2500

Hello,

the router does not support time service via MS protocols. It support standard NTP and XP can use it synchronize time from the date/time control panel and entering the address in the time server field.

Hope this helps, please rate post if it does!

Re: synchronize NTP of a computer XP with a Router 2500

Yes. basically when you type \\ip address, you are establishing an rpc / netbios session to the Router which will server NTP requests over port 123 UDP.

This will not be possible.

Thanks, When I place the IP 192.168.50.1 in the server field, say to me that it cannot synchronize

Re: synchronize NTP of a computer XP with a Router 2500

Hi,

I've seen this happening with some IOS version. I'm afraid you would have to rune some debugs / packet capture to understand why is not working.

Another Question

The configuration of router 192.168.50.1 is correct?,In order to allow that the Computer xp synchronizes with router?.

ntp authentication-key 2807200 md5 xxxxxxxxxxxx 7

ntp authenticate

ntp trusted-key 2807200

ntp clock-period 17179732

ntp source Loopback0

ntp peer 172.23.8.1

Re: synchronize NTP of a computer XP with a Router 2500

Hello,

I think that if you configure authentication, the PC will not be able to obtain time from the router.

Thank you for the nice rating and good luck!

Re: synchronize NTP of a computer XP with a Router 2500

That it would have to do, so that router 192.168.50.1 it continued synchronizing NTP via authentication with 172.23.8.1, but allows to the computer xp to synchronize NTP with 192.168.50.1 without authentication?

I think that it could have the following configuration in 192.168.50.1:

ntp authentication-key 2807200 md5 xxxxxxxxxxxx 7

ntp trusted-key 2807200

ntp clock-period 17179732

ntp source Loopback0

ntp server 172.23.8.1 key 2807200

Single it clears the commando: "ntp authenticate"

Re: synchronize NTP of a computer XP with a Router 2500

Hi,

Honestly I'm not sure if you can have the router to use authentication to an NTP server but not require authentication with the PCs.

Hope it may work for you.

Re: synchronize NTP of a computer XP with a Router 2500

Hi

PC XP could be authenticated, with the configuration that mentions previously, the PC that we were using of test, had a problem, at configuration level. This document I help myself to understand more on "NTP Authentication"

http://www.internetworkexpert.com/resources/01700369.htm

I Use the commando "debug NTP packet", to analyze what it happened in router at NTP level

Re: synchronize NTP of a computer XP with a Router 2500

The configuration in the router is:

ntp authentication-key 2807200 md5 xxxxxxxxxxxx 7

ntp authenticate

ntp trusted-key 2807200

ntp clock-period 17179732

ntp source Loopback0

ntp peer 172.23.8.1

Re: synchronize NTP of a computer XP with a Router 2500

paolo

I have configured routers to authenticate NTP with the server and to offer NTP to clients without authentication and it worked.
