T1->Router2600->Pix515e

In one of our offices we have a DSL router connected to our Pix. We are implementing a T1 and I configed the router. The T1 is connected to the router and I can get in. But when we go to connect the router to the pix the link lights don't come on and the FastEthernet is up, but line protocol down. The encapsulation on the Serial is PPP and serial and line are up. We have used cross over and straight through cables (many of each). Here is the sh int

FastEthernet0/0 is up, line protocol is down

Hardware is AmdFE, address is 0012.d967.7ce0 (bia 0012.d967.7ce0)

Internet address is 66.x.x.x/30

MTU 1500 bytes, BW 100000 Kbit, DLY 100 usec,

reliability 255/255, txload 1/255, rxload 1/255

Encapsulation ARPA, loopback not set

Keepalive set (10 sec)

Auto-duplex, Auto Speed, 100BaseTX/FX

ARP type: ARPA, ARP Timeout 04:00:00

Last input 2d01h, output 00:00:03, output hang never

Last clearing of "show interface" counters never

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Did you check that the PIX port connected to the 2600 is properly configured. It is in shutdown state by default.

Hope this helps,

I wouldn't think that the port would be in shutodwn mode since it is already connected to the DSL router and every thing is up. If I am wrong in thinking that please let me know.

I was referring to the port on the FW not on the 2600. Please make sure the port on the PIX facing the port fa0/0 on the 2600 is not in shutdown state and that it is configured for auto-negotiation since that was is set on the 2600 FE interface.

Hope this helps,

Again I really appreciate your help on this. I was referring to the PIX too. Here is what is there (it is currently connected to the DSL router)

interface ethernet0 "outside" is up, line protocol is up

Hardware is i82559 ethernet, address is x.x.x

IP address x.x.x.x, subnet mask 255.255.x.x

MTU 1500 bytes, BW 100000 Kbit full duplex

2718071 packets input, 3150815337 bytes, 0 no buffer

Received 9892 broadcasts, 0 runts, 0 giants

0 input errors, 0 CRC, 0 frame, 0 overrun, 0 ignored, 0 abort

1797334 packets output, 258083749 bytes, 0 underruns

0 output errors, 0 collisions, 0 interface resets

0 babbles, 0 late collisions, 0 deferred

74 lost carrier, 0 no carrier

input queue (curr/max blocks): hardware (128/128) software (0/3)

output queue (curr/max blocks): hardware (1/18) software (0

Thanks!

the PIX is configured for 100Mbits, full duplex, where as the 2600 is configured for auto negotiation.

Change ethernet0 on the PIX to auto negotiation with the following command and it should fix it.

interface e0 auto

Ok, I did that on the pix but nothing changed on the sh int (MTU 1500 bytes, BW 100000 Kbit full duplex). Was it supposed to? Also I am assuming that once we plug the pix into the router the line protocol will automatically come up, correct? Granted everything is configured right...

Thanks

The values in the "show int" on the pix would remain the same if the negotiation happens correctly with the 2600.

You are correct about your second statement. Assuming everything is configured properly the interface should come upo right away.

Do you have a crossover cable between the PIX and the 2600 now?

If so the other thing you could try is to configured both the PIX and 2600 manually to 100Mbps anf Full Duplex.

Hope this helps,
