SIP is used for Voice, normally it is used as a SIP TRUNK to a provider. from a PBX or an IP-IP gateway (CUBE). It will allow inbound and outbound calls, without the need for traditional circuits.
for instance: Call Manager-----CUBE-------SIP TRUNK
It is hard to answer your question really without knowing what PBX and phones you use, or in general what your requirements are, naybe you want to enlighten us.
