Traceback messages on Cisco ISR 2800 router

Can someone provide input on what these Traceback messages are and how they are caused:

*Mar 15 23:07:57.250: %SERVICE_MODULE-4-WICNOTREADY: Unit Serial0/1/0 not ready for next command -Traceback= 0x41173B5C 0x40371894 0x40371928 0x40371CE0 0x40372794

.... and so on.

We recieved this for one of our routers.  Rebooting it worked, so it's likely a software bug and we will upgrade the IOS soon, but I would like to understand what these log messages.

Thanks in advanced!

Re: Traceback messages on Cisco ISR 2800 router

Hello RyaButler,

the only meaningful message for  human beings is :

%SERVICE_MODULE-4-WICNOTREADY:

this means the WIC is not considered usable.

Tracebacks are low level messages that only IOS developers can decode with their tools. As you noted this should be a SW bug if the card works.

Hope to help

Or the WIC is not seated properly or s_c_r_e_wed in properly.

Traceback messages on Cisco ISR 2800 router

this is an old post, but wanted to add a comment. I had this same exact issue in my router logs and was not able to confirm if it was seated right or not. I ran a clear service-module serial 0/2/0. This command restarts the card and then loads the software again for the card. The state of my card before running the clear service-module was up/down. after running the command the card went down/down then up/up. Thought this would be useful info the next guy.

CSCsw63356 is identified in the 38xx chassis, but rather confident 28xx bug as well.

Traceback messages on Cisco ISR 2800 router

CSCte08720

Symptoms: %SERVICE_MODULE-4-WICNOTREADY: Unit Serial0/0/0 is not ready for next command, "show service-module" counters are not accessible. In some cases the interface will remain down/down.

Conditions: This symptom occurs when HWIC-1DSU-T1 or WIC-1DSU-T1-V2 is installed on a system that is running one of the following Cisco IOS Releases: 12.4(20)T4, 12.4(22)T3, 12.4(24)T2, 15.0(1)M2.

Workaround: There is no workaround.

Had same issue on a 2821. Upgraded IOS and no issue since.
