Transit interface/vlans & redistribution

Guyz,

Please help me understand why transit interfaces(transit vlans) are used?

Second,we are having a site where 2 internet links from the same providers but with different local last miles would be coming in.it would be terminated on their metroE CE routers.

this would be terminated on a single 6506.OSPF would be run on the 6500 with bgp running on carrier side.Goal is to have loadsharing of both links and switchover in case of failure.

Would it be advisable to terminate the links on a L3 interface and use it on vlan interfaces? Also, if we run ospf on 6500..would we have to do any redistribution viz. redistribute bgp from carrier on our 6500 or would carrier have to redistribute our ospf routes into their bgp process.Pls suggest and if possible a small config wud also help!

Thanks.
