Tunneling

Hi,

If we are using the two routers are our regional offfice, i want to know that what is the reason of making tunnel between the two location(Router)and how i have to do tunnel between them (Configuration)

And what are all the method of doing that

Please advice on the above points

Hi Vinoth,

You need the tunneling in order to secure your traffic between your offices, the simplest tunnel technology to be used is GER tunnels, please do check it out:

GRE tunnels do encapsulate traffic being sent between the 2 routers but they do not provide much security. If you want to secure the traffic you need something like IPSec.

GRE tunnels are very useful if you want to connect routers over public links but use private addresses on each LAN. Also helpful if you want to run a routing protocol between the routers but they are not directly connected.

Hi Rick,

You are absolutely right, i though of giving the simplest solution, thats why i suggested GRE, but as you've said if security is an issue, then IPSec would be perfect.
