unable to get the full dedicated bandwidth

we have two routers each at remote locations and two serial interfaces are connected between the routers with dedicated 2mbps line , recently we clubed the two links and made it a multilink of 4mbps. it is working fine..the problem is we are getting the maximum bandwidth of 3.02 Mbps. Is their anything to configure at multink interface , even it was two different lines also each line did get only 1544kbit...

when sh interface multilink 1 is executed

Multilink1 is up, line protocol is up

Hardware is multilink group interface

Internet address is 192.168.100.5/30

MTU 1500 bytes, BW 3088 Kbit, DLY 100000 usec,

reliability 255/255, txload 26/255, rxload 27/255

Encapsulation PPP, LCP Open, multilink Open

Open: IPCP, loopback not set

Keepalive set (10 sec)

DTR is pulsed for 2 seconds on reset

Last input 00:00:00, output never, output hang never

Last clearing of "show interface" counters 18:59:32

Input queue: 0/75/0/0 (size/max/drops/flushes); Total output drops: 55

Queueing strategy: fifo

Output queue: 0/40 (size/max)

5 minute input rate 331000 bits/sec, 111 packets/sec

5 minute output rate 319000 bits/sec, 91 packets/sec

5047890 packets input, 2285643686 bytes, 0 no buffer

Received 0 broadcasts, 0 runts, 0 giants, 0 throttles

0 input errors, 0 CRC, 0 frame, 0 overrun, 0 ignored, 0 abort

5204393 packets output, 3566793623 bytes, 0 underruns

0 output errors, 0 collisions, 3 interface resets

0 output buffer failures, 0 output buffers swapped out

0 carrier transitions

when sh int s1/1 (one of the interface that is multilinked)

Serial1/1 is up, line protocol is up

Hardware is M4T

MTU 1500 bytes, BW 1544 Kbit, DLY 20000 usec,

reliability 255/255, txload 23/255, rxload 27/255

Encapsulation PPP, LCP Open, multilink Open

Link is a member of Multilink bundle Multilink1, crc 16, loopback not set

Keepalive set (10 sec)

Restart-Delay is 0 secs

CRC checking enabled

Last input 00:00:00, output 00:00:00, output hang never

Last clearing of "show interface" counters 38w2d

Input queue: 0/75/0/0 (size/max/drops/flushes); Total output drops: 1179498

Queueing strategy: fifo

1 output errors, 0 collisions, 174 interface resets

0 output buffer failures, 0 output buffers swapped out

174 carrier transitions DCD=up DSR=up DTR=up RTS=up CTS=up

attached diagram also...any solution for getting the full 4mbps bandwidth...

pls help..

Hi Rajesh

Nothing to worry about unless you are running any routing protocols (like eigrp/ospf) over there.

You can rectify the same by configuring the bandwidth under the serial interfaces to 2048Kbps which will inturn take care of the bandwidth under the logical interface.

At present i am seeing its 1544Kbps under the serial interface and the resultant 3088Kbps appears under the multilink interface.

Once you change the bandwidth under the physical(serial) interfaces the resultant will come under the multilink interface.

If you are not getting the same after changing the bandwidth under the serial interface try shut and no shut under the multilink which may update the same..

Do also clear the counters under the serial interfaces which indicates lots of input and crc errors..

Thanks prem ,

it is working fine....by configuring the serial interface with bandwidth command ....with out shutting down the multilink interface..it reflected fast...thanks...but how do i clear counters at serial interface....can u clarify me...

It looks you are using T1s rather than E1...

Hi Rajesh,

"clear counters" command will reset counters on all interfaces. if you are looking to reset counters on a apecific interface you can enter "clear counters " command.

HTH, rate if it does ...

thanks dude..great help u guys..
