I have a series of router connected R1 connected to R2 via switch. R3 is connected to R2 via T1. when I ping a loopback addres from R1 to R3 its working. I issue traceroute command from R1 to the same loopback, its not working. Interface bet R1 and R2 are pingable. Sh ip route from R1 to loopback address, it shows R2 int. as next hop. Traceroute is not prohibited to these routers. What could be the possible caused? thanks,

The fact that you can ping the loopback on R3 from R1 demonstrates that there is IP connectivity and that correct routing is taking place between these routers. That is good and eliminates the most common cause of problems like this.

Are there any access lists configured on these routers at all? If so please post the access lists?

Do you have R3 configured with no ip unreachable? If so, remove it and see if traceroute now works.
