Updated IOS on WS-C4510R+E to IOS 3.5.3 and it still shows our two WS-X4640-CSFP-E line cards as unsupported modules

Our team is trying to install two WS-X4640-CSFP-E line cards in a WS-C4510R+E chassis but the status lights keep coming up red. After a bit of research we found that we needed to update our IOS to 3.5 or higher in order for the 4510 to use the line cards.

After doing an ISSU on both our supervisors (WS-X45-SUP7-E) to IOS 3.5.3 the 4510 still won't recognize the line cards. They both show up as unsupported modules when we run a "show module" command for each slot. Has anyone experienced this issue or know a solution?

You may want to double-check with TAC on this, but according to the Catalyst 4500 Series Line Cards Data Sheet, that line card isn't supported on the 10-slot chassis.

WS-X4640-CSFP-E:

● Supported on 3, 6, and 7 slot chassis

Hey Jody, thanks for your reply. We are planning on opening a case with TAC but thought it might be easier to ask if someone else had experienced this issue on here.

With the July 7, 2014 release of IOS 3.5.3 for the 4500-E series switches the WS-X4640-CSFP-E actually is supported now (or at least it is supposed to be since 3.5.0E in August 2013). The link you posted was from January 2014 so it must only have been supported since the most current release.
