URGENT:i CAN'T SET VLAN ON 1721

HELLO

i have this problelm with 1721 ,i changed IOS many time but result is same ,

i think maybe it's hardware difference ,

if we want to enableISL or Vlan on a 1721 Router:

first we have to define a subinterface,then we have to define the encapculat

ion ,in this case we can make the subinterface but not the encapsulation,the

procedure is as follow:

Router#configur Terminal

Router(config)#ip routing

Router(config)#interface fastethernet 0.10

Router(config-subif)#Encapsulation

here we have to define the "dot1q" encapsulation but the command is not avai

lable the router said

it is unrecognized command)

that was the procedure to defining the Vlan and i am sure it is not depend t

o the software.

please help me to find way to slove this problem ,

hi

this is an usual common probs out here wherein u need IP PLUS feature set to set it rite.

you can check out the s/w advisor tool and find out the support for 802.1q vlan,trunk support for your box.

I have the same problem, did you ever get to the bottom of it? The one thing I have found is that in show ver the problem router has

MPC860P processor: part number 0, mask 32

where as one that works has

MPC860P processor: part number 5, mask 2

maybe it's an early hardware issue?

It is extremely unlikely to be an issue of early hardware. As the previous response indicated it is almost certainly an issue with the feature set of the code running on the router (note this is not a question of version but of feature set). If you look at the output of show version (or even better if you post the output of show version to this thread) you will probably see that the router is running the IP BASE feature set. I believe that you need an upgrade to a feature set with more capabilities to do the encapsulation command.

Your post seems to indicate that you have one router that does support the encapsulation command and one router that does not. I believe that is you compare the two routers you will find that they are running different feature sets.
