I was able to set a password and user name, but my issue is when I log into the switch through a web browser I can enter the password with no username and still have access to the switch? When I Hyper Terminal into the switch I ran the command "show running-config" and it displays the new username I assigned to it. I'm concern about this issue because I'am working on a switch that we don't have access to because we don't have the password along with user name. So far I know how to reset the password, I'm not sure if username needs to be reset? Also is it possible to add a user with a password to gain access to a Cisco Catalyst 3550 series? I've searched all over the Cisco website and I find nothing related to adding a user to a Cisco switch.
username user privilege level 15 secret 0 password
by security I reccomended that you use ip http secure-server instead ip http server
