Using Ports as wan and lan

Hi!

Is it possible to use one port on a cisco 837 ADSL Router as a wan port and others as LAN Ports if we don't want to use its ATM Interface?

Hi Create Share, it is possible to create a DMZ interface on Cisco 837 LAN interface and if you correctly configure it you can use it a backup internet connection (it will be primary if you don't use ATM interface) also. But you can not configure it with Advanced Security image. You need Advanced IP Service or similar image to accomplish that.

Create Share, I don't think there is a specific document about that, because it is a "trick".

But you can follow these steps;

After installing correct image, you should see a new Ethernet interface in the configuration (I used it long time ago, but as far as I remember it would be Ethernet2).

You should put the "pppoe enable" and "pppoe-client dial-pool-number 1" command under interface config mode

Then you should configure PPPoE parameters under dialer interface
