R1--x21--Modem1---------Modem2--v35--R2

All,

I have a network as illustrated above. The modems are Comtech satellite modems; modem2 is internally clocked (DCE), modem1 is looptimed clocked(also DCE, but gets clock from modem2). The routers are DTE's. Essentially modem2 is the master clock for the setup.

Now my qeustion is, can one have two different interface types connected like this (R1=X21, R2=V35), without getting errors on the serial interfaces?

Presently, we get irregular bursts of loads of CRC errors on R2. We are looking at the satellite link, but i believe it might be due to the different interface types.

You inputs will be greatly appreciated.

Yes, you can have different interface types and that doesn't cause any problem.

Check your SNR and dish pointing, also try to relate weather to the time you have burst of errors.
