Vtp server: migrating from C6509 to Nexus 5596

I have an old Cisco Catalyst 6509, i'm using VTP on it. Now i have bought a new Nexus 5596 and i want to put it in service.

I have many small switch in the same VTP domain configured as client.

The revison of the VTP database in the 6509 is high (65).

Now 5596 have a database revision 4, i have copied all the VLAN definition in it, same password and same domain of the 6509.

I want to remove the 6509 from the net (switch off) and start the 5596 as new main server.

Small switch should see that the VTP revision is not right. So...

I'm thinking to change the vtp domain on the 6509 and then come back to the old domain to zeroes the VTP revision, switching off the 6509 than starting 5596 as server.

Is it right ?

Do you have suggestions ?

Many thanks.

Mauro

I have seen the link.

i think that, at the end of the work,  if you ask to show the running config ato the N5596 , he don't show the part of the vlan definitions.

He load and execute the database from the vlan.dat file.

But ... i'm not sure..

What do you think about ?

Thanks

Regards

Mauro
