VTP

Hi

I have three higher end switch and connected like these

Switch 1 ( VTP server ) -Switch 2 Client-Switch 3 client.

Now i want to create vlan 100 in Switch 1, which is broadcast in swtich 2&3.

My question

1) I want to add port 0/2 of Switch 2 and Port 0/2 of Switch 3 in Vlan 100. Can it possible ? 2) what out put i am getting in show vlan brief in all the vlan.

-Thanks

Vinod

Re: VTP

Vinod,

1st, All you have to do is to make sure all switches are connected via trunk ports.

2nd, assigning the vlan to the port is simply by issuing the following:

SW2:

int f0/2

switch port access vlan 100

SW3:

int f0/2

switch port access vlan 100

The Sh vlan br command, will show you which ports assigned for which vlans along with its naming and the Activity status.

Re: VTP

Hi msobier123

My question is if both port are f0/2 in different switc?

show vlan brief

vlan 100 - F0/2 F0/2

How can this possible ? please clarify

Re: VTP

Hi Vinod,

If you issue this command (sh vlan br), it will show you the ports those parts of the active vlan on the same switch.

for example:

you configured vlan 100 on SW2, and assigned port 3,3 respectively to the same vlan..

when issuing (sh vlan br) the out put will be:

vlan 100 active f0/2 , f0/3

the above output implies the status of SW2 and has nothing to do with SW3.

Re: VTP

VLANs in same VTP domains are interconnected using TRUNKS.

If you have same VTP domain (which you have, since you have working VTP) then:

VLAN #2 on one switch will be interconnected with VLAN 2 on other switches!

They are interconnected using Spanning Tree Protocol.
