WAN Microwave Link - MTU Sizing?

Hi All,

I have an interesting issue with a remote site that is connected by a  24M Microwave link – recently we have had a lot of packet  fragmentation, that has resulted in downloads that do complete, but fail  MD5 checksum tests.

A client side workaround tweaking the MTU (Win7) to 900 has alleviated the issue.

I am told there is no routers on either side of the link – only switches.

Would having a router in the equation with a tweaked MTU fix this  issue for all clients, without the need for a client side workaround?

Regards,

Glynn

No. Lowering MTU on faulty circuits is not really effective.

Hi Paolo,

Thanks for your reply - the reality is the change has made a positive affect - I don't agree that this is a 'solution' however am interested in how/why this would help the initial problem.

Regards,

Glynn
