I have just started studying OTV..give me some good reference if you have..

Some questions:

Let’s say I have two data centers DC1 and DC2 interconnected via metro Ethernet link and decided to run OTV between them..

  • •1) What are the advantages of extending the VLAN from one DC to other.
  • •2) Let’s say I have a host with ip 191.168.1.1 in DC1 and 191.168.1.2 in DC2..How would the remote sites know where to route?

Please treat this as a initial point questions and I will ask more as I progress..thanks

OTV is a MAC in IP technique to extend layer 2 domains over any transport.

* Ethernet traffic between sites is encapsulated in IP

* Dynamic encapsulation based on MAC routing table

*No Pseudo-Wre or Tunnel state mainatined.

* OTV control-Plane uses IS-IS to build adjacencies and exchange MAC reachability.

More info can be read on the above link.
